We are our government.
Abortion ends a life, yet we choose.
Parents matter. Both sides have
responsibilities. Pro Choice must own
what abortion is. Pro Life must own the
externalities of the alternative and rather than judge, love people for owning
their choice. No one relishes murdering
their child in utero, yet parents deserve this legal right to manage the
complexity of the very life we live. We
were all innocent once.
Even on moral grounds, the legalistic argument against
abortion is the same as that of prohibition of alcohol and that of current
illegal drugs.
"Prohibition
goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's
appetite by legislation and makes crimes out of things that are not
crimes."
This debate is old and naively argued against, by those that
would rather live on a pulpit than the complexity of a human soul. Those that trump the God card, should be the
first to understand the beauty of a soul returning to God. Those that ignore life in all its forms are
putting on blinders. Our government,
(us) orders the killing of people all the time, every day. We own that choice through
rationalization. We wrap that box with
certain shiny paper and declare it acceptable.
Abortion, war, home invasions, self-defense they are all boxes we wrap
and rewrap depending on the point of view, who we declare to be the
victim. Our end is not the point of
existence.
It is not how long we live, but how we live. We are an accumulation of the knowledge made
by dust in other graveyards. We all die,
but we don’t all really own our lives or our choices.
