Rainforest Leaping
The highlights of every day
come in the boughs of you
Swaying there like leaves
falling, descending into my consciousness
As these limbs evolve and
seasons shed their ripened fruit
Into the nourishment of
knowing that you and I are growing
Out of these introductory
phrases with roots wandering
Detaching from hardened soil
snaking down into the coils
Of loosened loam, fresh and
moist and all these treasures exhumed
From down here and slinking
into these chambers
And none of it comes in the
barter of a favor
But gifts like manna and all
of this wanders into my eyes
Like that shadow of sunlight
un-piercing but painted in
Like a backdrop of yellow
bliss behind all these words
That keep radiating in the
reaches of our interaction
Spawning growth in this
redwood oak hybrid bred
In rings of a trunk with all
this we have said
In the arms and limbs and
roots of these days
Spiraling on and on in the
groves of each phrase
Shared that you are here and
I am cleared to leap
Like a gibbon from the
highest branch of one rainforest balcony
Into the nest of your chest
fifty stories told and down
Streaming descent in a river
of air between us and I have found
Comfort in the lush brush of
your skin, this instrument of plenty
Washing all this away into
that sun-lit brook winding and finding
The warmth of this time and
all of it, all of it finds my face
Like a subtle feather
brushing the streak of these lines
Tracing my forehead to chin
in the softness of this time
Falling and falling and all
these words calling
Me to vault and bound my body
in faith into you
