Homework

In school nobody wanted to do their homework
The studious complied, perhaps enjoyed,
But the labor of lighting the erudite
The hours expanding and retracting the muscle of thought

These are a temperamental form of diligence
When compelled by a grading scale
An assignment of accomplishment
Packaging amassed thoughts into a ledger mark

Play sat abandoned in folklore
The conformist rider’s crop hung by the blackboard
Green paint, white chalk smashed in digits
Pulverized dust pressed into the rote

History books and geometry, religion and astronomy
This orbiting hunk, a fireball’s fleck
On screens of high definition politick
Resorting to the bar fight, the small-hand joke

The emperor with zero to freshman-Senator experience
In the realm of fund accounting or governmental function
To lead naked to a land of the fired coal plants smoking
Dinosaurs ridden by humans into zoological arks

Who wants to study mathematics over pointed jabs of saying-cud?
Who wants to think that hard over pink-nuggets of blame?

Rather fireworks and distract from all we have is an election this year
Nothing will happen of substance, but popcorn to inhale the show
The C students popping bubble-gum sparkling podiums for votes
The A students crunched in desks exasperated ridiculed in a lake of Brawdo
