Attempts at Vows

Attempts at Vows

I will lift weights and exercise my heart three times a day
During the week and at least once a day on weekends
Three groups of five minutes, not much
But an attempt to feel more than dead

I will quit drinking even the fake-zero soft drinks
The alchemy is suspicious
Only water during the week for lunch

Hope, chase the wisp on a wing to a feather
Falling drifting somewhere, find the intent to try
Hold the enigma on a cusp of fruition
Impossible to touch, yet reaching

The world has never felt smaller
Cinching in, I attempt to vow to make it bigger
To want something, to want to go somewhere
Everything, everywhere feels like mundane futility

This place, that spot is another rectum’s depository
This price, that hole is enthusiasm neutered with experience
Breath short, gasping under the gravity of a sensation to urinate
The backlog is a heft, a bulk of bottlenecked crimp pipe

Nothing comes out, everything everywhere is pointless
The running of the bulls, San Fermin, the trampling irrelevant hoofs
Stomping optional blood contributions, ancillary yelps for remembrance
I was here, avoiding the horns like bagpipes barking at the English

Another name in a magazine, another homeless street bum
Another tragedy exploited as common place,
Another castle tipped like a Jenga tower, scuttle bricks flop like drowning fish
Another mouth-breather gulps oxygen somebody else paid for

The saints are collecting interest on promises for good behavior
Revoked like a six time offense drunk driver’s license
Rubber stamped to roll right out there again to inseminate the heifers
With bulletproof testicles armor plated with the aroma of machismo

Flash drive, data, interpretations of what matters, what is important
Computed, logic resolutions suggested and bypassed for a quarter pounder with cheese
In the do not get out of your vehicle payment window, slouch, enjoy, recycle

Familiar Fetor

Familiar Fetor

New low cut like a root burrowing towards methane
Imprisoned in a bubble ticking to be ruptured
Injecting the vein track of blood back to the heart
With viral deposits crafted by time and the Earth

Like cackling bedfellows smirking as the taint
Corrupts the countryside of ambition into fallow complacency
Want oxidizes in the robust obliteration of ignorance
There will be no change.  This poison is permanent.

The old world churches, the bell towers clanging
Pews of peer-reviewed tomes bound in pages of yesterdays
Hiding the never was, stuck like semen gluing the paper
To dismember the table of contents into conjoined missing links

History mangled in the attrition of conjunction
The face and ass spoil the innards with a one-skin body
Explaining the situation in the simple purview of an analogous being
As if the spectrum were spliced into a single hue

Taste and smell are rancid, the feces of a canine clumps
In the grass somewhere in the perimeter undetected by sight
The winds reveal and compel the attendees to comment
This is all there is, I thought there was more

Olfactory consistency breeds compatriots
To rise to find a fresh pasture, but the odor is ubiquitous
Like a hound on the trail of a escapee kept at an equidistant danger
The scent is never closer or farther, but present like the skin that holds a body

As a defined structure, so that beings can tell where one being ends
And the other begins, these laundry assembly lists of dictionary solace
One heart, two feet, two lungs, one nose, two ears
Stretch of skin, length of veins and arteries is variable and a

Non-specific determinable variable that is rarely considered pertinent to count
The numbers, the math is everything and nothing, the ghost we chase
Knowing we are not the only one to detect the disturbance
Yet so rarely ever speak

Recession

Recession

I need someone to believe in me
I could be the best kind of religion
Flawed human, acknowledge the hypocrisies
Dangling from good intent

I let go, shed to bone, scraped the marrow
Tube in a neutral grown ant hill
Allowed the insects feast and digested the memories
As food for other bodies

Emptied, naked, truncated the sentiment to hold on
Plain as frame, patient predicated on potential
Faith for another to attempt to see
Any of this collection as a potential for empathy

Reward or a semblance of faith
Harboring trust in a convalescent caretaker
That the deposit would be gardened
To spur a tendril to spiral beyond

To put out more than was put in
A promise of investment return
That I was worthy of contemplation
For that moment of inquiry

Heap of Deletion

Heap of Deletion

Sometimes a thickness balls up in my gut
Like a whelp, throbbing for external pressure
To counterbalance the urge of expulsion
To be able to stabilize the sadness

The routine has been repeated in enough iterations
To communicate the likelihood of such a force of nature
Interfacing with the dull numb weight is infinitesimal

The urge to cry fizzles tears at the edge of the ducts
Until I am reminded of my gender like a clutch
Where I can feel the edge of my ribs underneath my skin clenching up
And all I crave in this universe is someone to hold

So as to carry out the transversal of masculine need through appearing strong
I have a job, a house, a daughter, bulky furniture
Carpet, a one-hundred thousand mile plus vehicle
A wardrobe and health insurance

These accoutrements are secondary to the desire for the sensation
Of that counter pressure, as they are all moot
To the physics of emotional reciprocation
An injury proper medical science would ridicule

As the ghosts of the universe applaud at focusing on the only integral variable
Broken, a faucet stripped of empathy, no font to drink
Parched prayers bartering for a caress of understanding
Sand, all there is, is sand

Be thankful for what you have, sir
It could always be worse, surely sir, surely

The loneliness pulls at me, imploding and forming its own gravity
Encompassing the definition of negation
Creating force it self by ramping a density of oblivion
As days continue the repeated tasks accumulate, not into fresh endeavors

But into a heap of deletion,
Their summation takes away the potential of what was there before
As if it could have been anything, but is in reality more of the same
The nothingness expands in the exchange

Ballooning the lump inside myself
Eating away like a black hole cancer
So far it has swallowed hope, religion, justice, balance
Faith and love are swirling on the outskirts like angels refusing to land

Barely visible, for I told them to fly as far as they could get
So that my insides never destroy them
For as long as I can ration that they exist somewhere in this universe, I exist

(Four Years Later)

The parameters in place for a man confronting unexpected divorce
In love with his wife and children
Are a distortion of the precepts of the American judicial system
Was there a crime?

Apparently the lack of a criminal or civil charge
Negate the necessity for a presumption of innocence of such an act
As it is evident to the people that he is in appearance a male
Portraying the role of a parent on paper

Severing a marital conjoined torso is overtly simplified in feminine hands
Freedom lives in the back interest owed on a three trimester uterine hotel stay
This trump towers, any secondary frivolous claims are paltry circumstance
Blood is a one-way highway, love has to exit now for detour roadblocks

Police officers place in the center of the interstate
Flashing lights, must turn around to avoid the investigation behind the barrier

Her syllables came out in absolutes truncating discourse
Like nerve endings cauterized in a molten slice
Coagulating plasma cold on her side of the body
Bubbling veins of roads redirected to a mud-slick creek bed on his

Flip the pickup truck cab caught in the hollow created by the ditch
Doors will not open; windshield cracked enough to crawl out
Survey the wreckage, no bystanders only whizzing automobiles
Set on a destination

Reasons live in vulnerability constructed from her cotton swab skeleton
Assuming his was welded steel smelted from directives
Ego, automaton for intercourse, gladiator blood sports, rifles, batons
Antlers, engines, lassos, nails, saws, lumber, perspiration, urine, stench

The softness was wiping up, impinged with burden
Tolerating the troglodyte’s blunt curmudgeon demands
Locked her in his tower he did and this declaration of independence
Is a sanctified constitution for time served under masculine tyranny

His choices: depart immediately or see his offspring and spouse
Reside with the more clearly defined in-laws, in either, there is no we
Why has no perch, why is a bird with infinite wings and no feet, perpetually aloft
Yet in reality he has been cuckolded by a cuckoo

Ignorance and faith combat, yet hurt is the knock out punch
Truth, facts, reality, have no place in divorce
From point zero, the only words he could speak
Were ones of mitigation or compounding, all syllables are dangerous

The idea of this morning there was a whole, an even, and the sense of this child
Created and raised uniquely by these two humans, is now severed
The preponderance of accreditation is allocated maternally
The absence of that equity is a spoon eviscerating the guts of fatherhood

Debate begins internally how can he stand his ground
To retrieve his intestines on the curb?  Stuff them back
Like a father’s hand into a Santa stocking on Christmas Eve
Depositing the seed of glee and a job description

Vacant, fired, a man without a job is penis-less
Hitchhiker, shoe-polish sign pick a highway, plant is closed sir
Forms trickle in the mail like flag bearing heralds before the army’s arrival
Legal fill-in-the-blanks, accusations, discovery procedures documenting

If a man had private surveillance to document what he should have, but did not know
Boomerang accusations that he and is daughter were oil and water, combative, hostile
Rage bottled and spilled across the wood planks of the house he moved across country
Back to her rural home town to build her, abrupt like Macondo billowing plumes

The charcoal and the slick-black beguile the townspeople,
Contrast whispers, not even whispered, he knows it is useless to speak
Paper says, children too young to intervene
The railroad horn explodes around two a.m. every night, insomnia

Crying is impossible, at desk, return from work attempt, dry
Nothing comes out, emote a parched heat burning under each duct
Shivering wanting to expel, but the tone reverberates into a dull clump
Incapable of vibrating into a liquid equivalent of a childish tantrum

Anger calcified into a statue of pragmatism and ration
She has castrated his communication in familial exile
Of which there is no blood painted on his door, other than the trickle
That exists in his daughter like a hanging election chad

Arguable, mutable, capable of being redefined
Yet the link is a muzzle, explosions would terminate
Shrapnel surely misconstrued cast onto to her miniature shoulders
Dolls with severed limbs and scissor hair
Blame the disconnect on this man that is still where
She use to live

No time to emit a memory, photograph’s hang on the walls
Nails behind, un-tape the collages, destined to live in mirages
Of memories blur in incantations that sequences never occurred
Repeated enough and neither her, her or I, will ever reside

In that world, only this post-landscape readying for travel
Reconstruct for battle

A year to trial, first crow March go home no time to hear
Second crow June go home no time to hear
Third crow September, six hours and perjury is easier for her to remember
He says this child has an overabundance of people who love her
I will lay down my dreams to be here for her

No go sir, your dreams are vapid dust here
Smeared on parchments, signatures legal, days allocated
He is only doing this to avoid payments, love is now the absence of extortion
Pin it up, lynch him shut, power suit the power of a cunt

Vows are like toilet paper, precious when white, useless once unrolled
Can not get rid of it fast enough, He finally found out about him two years later
Dating, married, fathered her new son

Contracts, payments, check in the mail to a woman with a new non-maiden name
For his daughter’s summer camp expenses, review the electronic bank clearing
Another’s man’s endorsement on the back of the check

The Scale

The Scale

What goes around comes around
Karma, justice, retribution
Revolving back to even
Bullshit

Balance is a human illusion
Crafting a God that wishes best interests
Determined by obedience to implied social contracts
Written by the naked emperors who raised us

Golden rule, turn the cheek
Eye for an eye, fist for a gun
Camel through the eye of a needle
Shed these possessions and greet

Love in a grocery store aisle
A peach for all this depression
Sewer rat climbing out working hard
Ladder rungs for longer arms that grow

In after the age of twenty-one
Mistakes of a third decade resurrected in the sum
Of fifty years recompense, sacrifice, reconciliation
And sleepless nights full of prayer

Knees in the mind, penitent, permission
That nothing is possible without the great adjudicator
Stars in the nebula, universe seen and unseen
Light bending on gravity and show me, show me

The great, no not today novelty
Possibility in the circle engulfing the peace
Of what it means to be an evolved species
Consequence with the consciousness of God

Something outside of existence must have sparked the beginning of
Physical matter, dogmatic explanations, the greatest of which
Is the meaning and purpose of life,
But mainly humans, for in our encompassing need for justice
We are myopically self-centered

Challenging gravity to depart this planet when the asteroid comes
When the sun explodes a burp of gas to end us all to our last
Hour of amenable temperature, logic then on who was good enough or better
To ride the rocket ship to make the team picked first or learned

Nah, some kids are born in wealth
Shiny skin or a taller skeleton
More oval face with larger diameter comparison eyes
To equal beauty in the estimation of our genetics

Athletic limbs, acne faces
Parents holding October birthday five year olds
Back from enrolling in kindergarten intentionally
To give their gene carriers a leg up on their competition

More attention, larger comparative frame, picked first
Assumed competencies in the illusion of side-by-side simultaneous viewing
Obliterated by the notion of substituting a first grader in the runts stead
This outlier effect runs rampant throughout life

At some point the balance would sink its teeth
But the confidence gained in the assumptions of entitlement
Magnify rather than dissipate in the opportunities afforded
As if most of life is not about capacity, but financing and the ability to even

Be entered into the starting lineup for the chance at swinging for the fences
And so some have thirty strikes and some have one to use
Before retirement, this is our course to traverse

There is no karma, there is no happens for a reason
There is no what comes around goes around dance
These are the promises of the ring wearer to one day let you borrow his jewelry
And yet the circle never leaves his hand

A note to myself

A note to myself:

I do not really want to move, because
Every place appears just as numbingly barren
New Orleans calls with promises
Of being mugged, shot, stabbed or cured

I am a man standing in the middle of traffic
Straight up like a cypress tree
Knotty and erect wading in a swamp
Peering at the passers by immune to the sludge

Cascading my ankles, it appears as hardened cement
For the voyagers, I constantly remind myself
I have options I can raise these knees
Step to the left or back to the right

Avoid this highway of numb
Choose either unknown
Part of me is trying to keep venturing left
To see my New Orleans back from beyond Ignatius’ wasteland

Fear clumps to my heart like caked mud
A crawfish hole towers for anything to claw its way out
In time, for a spring season only to be boiled alive
As if any of the colors will be promising

Back and forth faith undulates like the waves to a Grand Isle dock
Salt water oxidizing the implants in my skull
Android thinking placates my humanity slipping into an underground
Of roots, wandering roots stretching for a substance

Inside the current environment avoiding the reality
That walking out of here may only be a fantasy
It rains every afternoon in summer, the heat boils over
Humidity thick in the sky like a rice pot

The pressure burst my pod years ago, splat mush for carrion types to scour
Thoughts scurried like grubs and worms to wiggle under earth
But all I find is this cement hardened like a ceiling
Can not breathe when it rains, and it always rains

Pours like a fender to the face, a tire to the pectoral
So many crawfish should have never tried to cross the road
